Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the prestigious cup on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side fired two times late to take a shock advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital equaliser in the dying seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout victory.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
